How to make remote projects work

Write it down

Agree the scope in writing before work begins: the pages or screens, what each must do, and what is out of scope. Every later change should be written down too, with its cost and impact on the deadline.

Agree a rhythm

A short weekly call, a shared task board and a staging link where you can see progress at any time keep everyone aligned without daily meetings.

One decision-maker

Remote projects slow down when feedback comes from several people at different times. Name one person on your side who signs off.

Pay in stages

Link payments to milestones, such as design approval, a working build and launch, and agree the currency and payment method in the contract.

What to check before you hire

• Live work for clients abroad. Ask for links, and if possible a client you can talk to.
• A registered company. Check the company registration and a real office address.
• Ownership. Your domain, hosting and app store accounts should be in your name, and the contract should cover handover of the source code.
• Support after launch. Who fixes problems, how quickly, and at what cost.
